The one-page loop: diagnose, structure, measure, adjust. Run it every session — Chapters 21 & 27.
Before You Go — Aim the Session
A session without a question is repetition, not practice (Chapter 1). Decide the target before you touch a ball.
- I know which pillar I'm working (the weakest from my Player Profile, not my favorite club).
- I have one measurable question for today (e.g. "How often can I start the 7-iron within 5 yards of my line?").
- I picked the drills that score that skill, with their benchmark for my handicap band.
- I have my Session Log and a way to record results on the spot.
During — Structure & Measure (Chapter 21)
| Block |
Time |
Done? |
| Warm-up (not scored) | ~15 min | Loose, not grooving faults |
| Skill block — score every rep | 50–60 min | 60% primary · 25% secondary · 15% maintenance |
| Pressure game (transfer) | 10–15 min | One game, scored under a little heat |
| Tracking | ~5 min | Numbers written down before I leave |
- Every block of reps produced a number, not a feeling.
- I made one small adjustment and checked whether the pattern changed — not five at once.
- I used an external reference (gate, target line, distance) instead of trusting feel (Chapter 1, the Feel Gap).
After — Record & Adjust (Chapter 27)
- Logged each drill's result vs. benchmark and my Practice Strokes Gained.
- Noted the pattern I saw (e.g. "consistent right miss") and the one adjustment for next time.
- Compared today to last session — am I actually moving, or just busy?
The Loop — Re-Aim on Schedule
| Cadence |
Check |
| Weekly | Ten-minute review: are my leading indicators (practice) and lagging indicators (scores) in sync? |
| Every 4 weeks | Re-run the Player Profile. The weakness moves as you improve — re-aim the plan at the new one. |
