Your 40–100 yard distance system. Calibrate once (two 30-minute sessions), then stop guessing — Chapter 9.

Carry distances in yards. 2–3 wedges × 3 swing lengths = 6–9 calibrated distances covering the 40–100 yard band.
Swing lengths are positions, not feelings
- Full: your normal, full-effort wedge motion.
- Three-quarter: lead arm exactly parallel to the ground at the top.
- Half: lead arm at hip height at the top.
Calibration protocol
- Session 1 (full swings, ~30 min): one club at a time — hit 10 balls into open space, measure carries, average the five most representative. Record.
- Session 2 (partial swings, ~30 min): same structure for three-quarter, then half swings.
- Aim into open space, not at a target — you're measuring carry, not judging proximity.
- Each club/length combination should cluster within a 10-yard range. If it doesn't, recalibrate that cell.
On the course
Get the number to the flag. Find the closest matrix distance. Execute that swing. Decision made — variable removed.
Example: 73 yards to the flag → half pitching wedge carries 72 → that's the shot.
