Wedge Matrix Calibration

Wedge Matrix Calibration is a scoring skills drill from The Adaptive Golfer. Measure your carry for each club-and-swing-length combination to build a calibrated wedge matrix. It trains distance control, and your result is measured as Practice Strokes Gained against your handicap band.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Here's Wedge Matrix Calibration. This is measurement, not performance. You are learning exactly how far each wedge carries. Find an open range area where you can measure carries. You do not need a target. Remove the target entirely. Pick one club and one swing length. Full, three-quarter where the lead arm is parallel, or half. Hit ten balls with that exact combination. Discard the obvious mis-hits. Average the five most representative carries. Record that number in your matrix. Then repeat for full, three-quarter, and half across each wedge. Full calibration takes about two thirty-minute sessions. When you have calibrated full, three-quarter, and half for every wedge, your matrix is built. Take it to the Nine-Shot Landing Zone and put those numbers to work. Log every session in The Adaptive Golfer.

How to do Wedge Matrix Calibration

SET UP

An open range area where carries can be measured. No specific target is needed — this is measurement, not performance.

RUN IT

Select one club and one swing length (e.g. gap wedge, three-quarter = lead arm parallel at the top). Hit ten balls with that exact combination, discard obvious mis-hits, and average the five most representative carries into the matrix. Repeat for full, three-quarter, and half lengths across each club. Full calibration takes about two 30-minute sessions.

PROGRESS

Once calibrated, move to the 9-Shot Landing Zone using your matrix distances as targets.

COMMON MISTAKE

Hitting at a target and judging by proximity rather than measuring carry. Remove the target entirely — this is a measurement exercise.

How Wedge Matrix Calibration is scored

This is a feel and rehearsal drill, so it is not scored. It pairs with a scored drill.
