The 10-Rep Pressure Routine Test
The 10-Rep Pressure Routine Test is a performance drill in The Adaptive Golfer app. Build a repeatable pre-shot routine that holds up when pressure pulls you into mechanics. It trains execution under pressure, and your result is measured as Practice Strokes Gained against your handicap band.
How to do The 10-Rep Pressure Routine Test
- Pick an imaginary target in front of you: a doorway, or a spot on the wall.
- Choose one target-focused cue, such as "Start it at the doorway" or "Send it to the center."
- Cues about your body or your swing, like "keep my head still" or "turn my shoulders," do not count.
For each rep:
- Picture your target for two seconds.
- Take one calming breath.
- Say your one external cue, quietly or in your head.
- Make one rehearsal swing.
- Step in and make one committed, slow swing.
- Do not restart, add a practice swing, change the target, or use a mechanical thought once you step in.
- Complete ten reps.
You completed the entire routine and committed to the swing without restarting or changing focus.
You restarted, added a swing, changed targets, or slipped into mechanics.
the final three reps must be clean. If you miss one of them, restart the final three. Log your first ten reps as your score.
Sliding into a mechanical thought after you step in. The routine is the skill. The moment you start fixing your swing mid-rep, the rep is a zero even if the swing looked fine.
▲ LEVEL UP
Once you hold the top of your benchmark across three sessions, run the same ten reps with a club on the range, then make the first ten real shots of every session count the same way.

| 20+ | 5–7 |
This drill is not from the book. The bands above are ours, derived from the standard the book sets for comparable drills, so every level has a target to clear.
Your result is converted to Practice Strokes Gained against your band, so you always know if you are above, at, or below where you should be.
Log each rep and see whether you are above, at, or below your band — not just the target.
The 5-pillar diagnosis tells you whether this drill is even the thing costing you strokes.
A four-week plan picks your drills and recalculates as your numbers move.
